Antique Orkney Chair
I have been keen to have one of these in stock for many years.
These traditional Orkney chairs were built low to avoid the smoke from the peat fire while the straw back keeps the heat snug around the shepherd.
This chair is late 19th century made from pine with the original woven straw back.
The condition of the pine frame is good with tiny signs of old worm which we have re treated to be on the safe side. Being over 100 years old having the original straw back is rare. The condition of this is fair .... certainly not perfect with some breakages. Please look closely at the pictures which highlight this. The chair is certainly good to sit in maybe more of a spare room chair rather than a telly chair .
105 cm h ( 37 h to seat ) x 61.5 w x 57 d.
