Rare for us this is an authentic 19th Century Italian Harlequin painted cupboard.
"The harlequin pattern traces back to Italy’s 17th-century theatrical tradition of Commedia dell’Arte, where Arlecchino’s diamond costume inspired decorative arts across Northern Italy. By the 19th century, rural artisans painted furniture with these lively motifs using handmade pigments on pine or poplar. This cupboard, with its original red, blue, and ivory diamond pattern, is a fine example of Italian folk artistry—both rustic and exuberant in equal measure."
A few bumps and scrapes as per its age with masses of patina - we have added a reclaimed pine shelf - structurally good and sturdy.
