Banque De France Desk
Sold
Sourced after a major refurb from the Paris bank this wonderful roller desk is circa 1920 - 1930. Produced and manufactured by La Maison Jansen. Reputably the first global design firm founded in 1880. They seemed to produce work for anyone who was anyone.
Exceptional quality and craftsmanship made mostly from oak with a brass surround.
Authenticity is often the goal for any antique dealer and with this stunning desk we have left it as we found it as much as possible, only replacing the leatherette writing surface as the original was torn. To give you an indication of the quality there is a slab of slate under the leatherette.
The bottom roller would have held all the rubber stamps. All in all the piece is in fantastic working condition. There is plenty of natural patina throughout including some ink stains all adding to the character.
It has an imposing Art Deco feel about it and would be best with plenty of space around it.
The piece is in two parts, with the desk being notably heavy ( slate ) !
It was very tempting to contrast the authenticity with a bright coloured leatherette - perhaps a dusty blue...
